Concerns as Muslims call for introduction of law
Police, the sinister organisation that imposes law in many countries |
Based on what they say is the age old principles of justice, punishment and impartiality, Muslims want British attitudes to change to allow the introduction of law.
The law
"In Pakistan, there is the idea that wrongdoers are caught and punished and I would certainly like to see it introduced here," said Ishmael Mohammed, who has had his small newsagents broken into several times and has been injured twice in the past two years.
"But I must say, I don't see why you make this a Muslim thing. Surely anyone with a sense of decency wants law and justice?" added a confused Mr Patel.
However, civil liberty groups have spoken out at what they see as "barbaric" and "mediaeval" punishments and infringements of personal freedom.
The order
Shami Chakrabarti of Liberty, a human rights organisation, said that introducing law is likely to see individuals detained against their will and subject to "cruel" limitations on their freedom.
"We have been campaigning against law for some time, for it often results in people being punished. I am shocked and disgusted that there are some who want to introduce it her," she said, before vomiting into a bucket to illustrate her point.
