Gay pride march causes controversy

Gay pride marchers protesting in central London have taken to the streets to protest at what they say is "institutional discrimination".

The Glad to be Gay march saw wearers of high waisted trousers and shorts, side-partings, fully buttoned-up polo shirts and other stereotypical "gay" apparel march down Whitehall in a bid to force politicians to draft new gay-rights laws.

"For too long it has been judged acceptable for people to openly call us gay merely because of the way we dress, act or talk," lisped protest leader and high-waistband wearer Simon Cowell through a megaphone from the Daihatsu Copen he slowly led marchers with.

Blunt lover

"Just because some of us happen to like James Blunt songs, tuck our jumpers into trousers or choose to have an early night rather than go to the pub, does not mean it is right or proper we should be subjected to hate."

Church groups have given their support to the marchers, as going to mass is "pretty gay" and choir boys "were totally gay", the Archbishop of Canterbury stated.

Even Muslims backed the gay pride march, with Abu Hamza stating that for years many followers had bemoaned a ban on alcohol as "absolutely fucking gay". However, he said that suicide bombings would continue to be classed as "lame" or "weak" rather than "gay".

Strong hate

Despite this, homosexual-rights group Stonewall spoke out against the marchers, saying that they had hijacked a perfectly acceptable word and now applied it to something that many people found offensive.

"I was brought up to learn that gay applied to a man who takes pleasure in anal intercourse with another man, now this group comes and brings discredit to their word," fumed the pressure group's chairman, Peter Tatchell.

"They should go and find another word, or better still, go to another country like Germany where they like that kind of thing.

"The filthy beggars," he added.
